Orchestra students auditioned for Texas Education Association Region 6 Orchestra in September. Nine students were accepted out of 11 that auditioned.

“The audition process is kind of tough because you’re going against everyone in the region,” senior violin player Zoe Prescott said. “If you get in it is really a great opportunity, and a lot of fun to do”.

Orchestra instructor, Elizabeth Blatchley, said she was happy about their results.

“I’m excited,” Blatchley said. “Last year we had seven try out and make it. I’m very pleased with the results”.

Orchestra students are working really hard to prepare for TMEA and their upcoming winter concert on Dec. 8.

“I practice a lot, like a lot,” sophomore violin player Alexxis Duarte said.  “I practice like four hours a day, and I‘ve been playing since the third grade”

When they are not practicing for orchestra, the students work towards community service hours. They will be collecting Toys for Tots for one of their service projects.

“It’s Marine-based,” Blatchley said. “They collect toys for families that can’t afford toys for Christmas, so we’re going to be a part of that and help fundraise”.
