The girls golf tournament at Diamondback Golf Club on Oct. 9-10 in Glen Rose finished with two teams tied for fourth place and two golfers scoring personal bests, junior Kaitlyn Johnson with 84 and junior Grace Kasberg with 88.

For Kasberg, it’s not about being the best, even if she did set a personal best; she does it for herself.

“It’s not the most fun to watch golf but just like being able to play by ear because it’s not a team sport,” Kasberg said. “And I have a lot of fun just playing around with my friends.”

Junior Lahna Hack’s personal best is 97. While it will be hard to beat that score, she knows she can eventually lower it.

“I’m staying positive and even though every shot isn’t always going to be my best,” Hack said. ”I can always practice and do better the next time.”

Junior Gabi Pallarez shot a 92 for her highest score during the tournament, and she wishes to do better next time.

“Just seeing my teammates excel and do better; it just really pushes me,” Pallarez said. “And then just knowing like I could have done better and knowing what I need to fix”

The team practices daily rotating between the Country Club, the Stairway Country Club, Maxwell, and Diamondback Golf courses, if weather permits. They expect their progress to be slow and steady.

“My personal best is a score of 84, I’m trying to hopefully get it down to the 70s,” Johnson said. “I’m planning to make that happen by practicing more and making sure I’m not stressing out too much about it.”

They will play the AISD Halloween Classic on Oct. 27 at the Diamondback Golf course, as well on Oct. 28 at the Maxwell Golf Course.
