Author and illustrator of several graphic novels, Jarrett Krosoczka, visited Abilene schools on Nov. 6, to show his new book “Sunshine”.

“Sunshine” is a book about a teenager who works at a camp in the summer for critically ill kids.

“The book ‘Sunshine’ talks about how anytime you volunteer, you actually get more of a reward than you probably expect,” librarian Kate Stover said.”Because you’re taking up your time for other people, but you end up being blessed by them in return.”

Stover and Cooper High School librarian Kalyn Gensic went to the Texas Library Association conference in April, where they got to meet Krosoczka and see a live reading.

“The live reading of ‘Sunshine’ was such a cool experience,” Stover said. “We really wanted our students to experience that.”

Stover and Gensic worked on writing a grant and got support from the Abilene Culture Affair Council to have Krosoczka come to Abilene and provide free copies of his book for all freshmen in the school district.
