There are 20 seniors up for the title of Miss and Mr. AHS 2024. Students selected have shown academic achievement, citizenship, school leadership and community service.

Teachers will rank the nominees based on that criteria to select one boy and one girl for the title of “Mr. AHS” and “Miss AHS” The winners will be announced at the senior awards assembly on May 23.

The nominees are Tarynn Bridge, Arabella Campo, Molly Caroll, Isabel Gebhart, Arabella Marz, Madeline McMillon, Marin Murray, Sydney Spell, Amyah Starks, Ariana Trevino, Ethan Atkins, Brelon Badon, Miles Etter, Caleb Irwin, Josh Melson, Adi Pilit, Barrett Roberson, Collin Simpson, Jimmy Schwartz and Carlo Villamor.

‘‘I’ve been involved in a lot of things in my time of high school,’’ Murray said. ‘’I am a four-year letterman in cross country, soccer and track so I’ve done a lot of things through that and with academic awards.’’

Getting the title can vary from acknowledgement from peers and teachers. Many of these seniors have received scholarships and want to inspire others through doing so.

‘’I got into Yale University, and I got a full scholarship,’’ Marz said. ‘’It’s inspired me to kind of set an example for other people. Because I am aware people definitely look up to me and I have younger siblings and I want them all to go to college.’’

Students’ morals have had a big impact on how and what brought them such a long way to reaching their goals.

‘’Going into high school my goal was to be top 50 in my class and then I just got really competitive,” Murray said. “Now, I am doing better than top 50, and I think a lot of that was a lot of studying and taking AP classes.’’

Murray and Marz said their high school journeys have impacted them and affected their views.

“I honestly think my friends and family, the people I’m around, are just so special to me,” Marz said. “If I didn’t have the supportive community that I have at dance, at home with my mom and my siblings and at school here at Abilene High, I wouldn’t have been able to do anything.”

Murray has experienced more of a spiritual impact through her accomplishments.

‘’The most important thing to me is my faith,” Murray said. “It’s what makes me who I am, and I definitely wouldn’t be where I am today without the gifts God has given me and the opportunities he’s given me.’’

More information about Miss and Mr. AHS will be aired soon with more insight on these girls and other nominees and their goals, achievements, and views.
