As they fix their zombie makeup and look in the mirror, the students are ready to have their zombie night with the people of Itu, Brazil.
The Highland Church of Christ went on a ten-day trip to Itu, Brazil from July 14 to July 24 to experience God in a foreign place. During this trip, they did a three-day camp where they did costume nights and other activities. Since they don’t celebrate Halloween all the kids dressed up.
“It changes your mindset on how you look at a lot of things,” senior Sarah Brown said. “It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.”
One of the most memorable parts of the trip for the students were the costume nights, specifically the zombie night.
“My favorite theme night was zombie night,” Brown said. “Everyone dressed up.”
The townspeople went all out for the costume night themes.
“We did costume nights three out of the five nights at camp and they went all out,” senior Sam Thomas said. “Even the food was on theme.”
Students were thankful for the opportunity to show their faith in a foreign place.
“It was very eye opening,” Thomas said. “You’re somewhere that is completely different from anything you’ve ever known”
It was a surreal experience that will never be forgotten for Brown.
“I recommend going”,” Brown said. “I’d definitely go again.”
Once he went, Thomas immediately wanted to go back, and he plans to.
“I’ve been twice already and I’m planning on going again,” Thomas said. “Then maybe I’ll go during college for six months.”
