Senior Vicky Gao will be releasing her debut single, a love song, titled “the little ghost inside my head” on Monday, Oct. 31.
“It’s special to me because obviously, it’s like my first single release, but I just think it’s like a really universal song,” Vicky said. “I feel like everyone has experienced something like it before, so, it’s really relatable.”
Originally written in January of this year, Vicky’s theme for this song was based on the idea of creating a fantasy of someone in your head.
“I thought it would be cute because it’s not like a person in your head,” Vicky said. “It’s like a ghost of a person. So it’s not like the actual person, it’s like the version of them that you created in your head.”
Vicky has written a total of 17 full songs over the past few years, however, this is the first one that she has produced. She hopes to produce more of her already-written songs in the near future, as a way to continue sharing her love for singing.
“I’ve always loved music,” Vicky said. “I’ve played the piano since I was five. I’ve also sung all of my life, and I’m in choir here at Abilene High.”
Her longtime love for music combined with her more-recently ignited passion of writing songs has led Vicky to where she is today, on the verge of kick starting her career as a singer and songwriter.
“I just love music and like all of the aspects of it,” Vicky said. “Like how music can make you interpret things differently and how it can be there for you when you’re feeling down or any other emotion. I just love it so much.”
Her song, “the little ghost inside my head” will be available to stream on all platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
“I hope they get from it that they’re not alone and like whatever they’re feeling, that it’s okay,” Vicky said. “And you can scream it in the car and everything will be okay.”
