After three days of tryouts, the girls’ soccer teams are officially ready for preseason. New goals and new teammates are preparing the team for the season to come.

“For me tryouts were pretty rough,” sophomore Gabi Pallarez said. “I pushed through and tried my hardest.”

The season officially starts on January 5, but the team had their first scrimmage on Saturday December 10.

“The scrimmages went super well, and we won 15-0 against Lake Worth,” sophomore Alexa Lubunga said. “We played together really well.”

Some of the girls, such as freshman Rheanua De La Garza, have lots of personal and team goals for this season.

“I’m hoping as a freshman it’s easy for me to play well and score well along with the others,” De La Garza said. “As a team we just hope to connect together on and off the field.”

Winning district is a goal for a lot of the girls, such as Pallarez.

“One of my goals is definitely to win the district and beat Wylie and Cooper,” Pallarez said. “We definitely have the potential to do it this year.”

Most of the girls, like sophomore Keeley Aston, have to balance club soccer and school soccer.

“Having to practice after school then go to practice that evening can be difficult at times,” Aston said. “It’s not easy, but it definitely makes me a better player overall.”

Their next scrimmage is December 16 against Midland Legacy at the Shotwell Annex.

“After the last scrimmage, I have high hopes that we can win this one,” Lubanga said. “We just have to try our best and work.”
