The boys’ basketball team started the season strong with a 5-1 record, defeating Sweetwater 51-42 on Nov. 28.
“We play really good teams, really good players but again our kids are excited about our challenges this year,” coach Justin Reese said. “We’ve grown up a lot since the last couple of years and have a lot more experience with that and our kids are ready for the challenge.”
Over Thanksgiving break the Eagles defeated Llano 47-39 on Nov. 18 and beat Mineral Wells 72-61 on Nov. 20, before falling to San Angelo Central 66-53 on Nov. 21.
“Every game is going to be a battle,” Reese said. “Our kids know that, but we’re excited about the challenge, and we have high expectations for this group, and I think our kids do too.”
After a fall in the first game, senior Sawyer Moss pushed through the game.
“Probably playing through injuries and having multiple games every week, is the biggest challenge,” Moss said.
Sophomore Payton Shawver said that basketball boys like being around each other because it’s fun.
“We’ve been working on our set, and we’ve been working on a lot of things even since last spring,” Shawver said. “We have a pretty young team. I think we got skilled players so we would go pretty far.”
The Eagles will play in the Key City Classic tournament on Dec. 1-2, the Glenrose tournament on Dec 7-9, and play a four non-district game before beginning district play against. Lubbock. Monterey. on Dec.19.
