The boys’ varsity basketball season has officially ended with the team earning an overall record of 22-2 and a record of 8-4 in district, earning third place in district.
“It was pretty good, we had a lot of fun this season,” sophomore Brooks Reese said. “I think playing together as a team, we had a really fun time, we all played together really well.”
Coach Justin Reese and many other players agreed that their strength as a team was supporting each other on and off the court. They bonded by having team dinners and going to tournaments.
“I think I did a good job cheering on my teammates,” sophomore Payton Shawver said. “We grew closer as a team and did a good job of motivating each other even through hard times.”
Throughout the season players worked overtime to make practices and games.
“We really worked hard as a team during practices,” junior Tyson Thompson said. “I showed up to practices and worked hard to make it in the rotation.”
It’s been three years since they’ve been to the playoffs and they strive to return again next year.
“I think our kids want to be in the playoffs again next year,” Reese said. “They were really determined to do that this year and our biggest goal is always to keep getting better.”
Many players felt as though they had a home court advantage and expressed appreciation for the students that supported them. An anonymous doner sponsored tickets for all students to be able to get into basketball games for free.
“Our student section was awesome this year,” Reese said. “We appreciate all our high school kids that came out to every game to support our guys. We’re very thankful.”
