In a important achievement, juniors Anson Cobarruvias, Emily Ratliff, and senior Madyson Cordova were awarded with the National Hispanic Recognition Award from principal Emme Sibert earlier this month.
The National Hispanic Recognition Award, NHRA, is an academic achievement which recognizes hispanic and latin students for outstanding PSAT scores throughout the country.
“We have really smart kids that work really hard so anytime anytime anyone is recognized for their accomplishments, it always an honor to present them with their award,” Sibert said. “I feel like student recognition for all students is very important because its a way to celebrate all of our student bodys achievements.”
In order to receive this award test takers must make a minimum of 215 on the PSAT and score above the 97th percentile. The recipients were presented with this award mrs Sibert and at the AISD board meeting.
“I’m striving for a high ranking to get scholarships to help pay for college.” Cobaruvious said. “I just continue to work and push towards my goal.”
The College Board uses this and many other recognitions to help underrepresented students around the country to excel and interest colleges and universities.
“Receiving the award felt good, it showed that all my hard work was paying off,” Cobaruvvius said. “All my teachers have helped me succeed and prepare for tests throughout the years.”
The NHRA award encourages students to continue their academic journey with confidence and provides college bound recipients with additional benifits.
“I want to be able to get into a good college” Ratliff said. “This award will help me get scholarships and will look good on my applications.”
