The Eagles made their way back to the playoffs after three years of not making it.They finished district play with an overall record of 4-2 and placed 4th in district 2-6A.
The Eagles started off the season 0-3 securing their first win on week 4 against Permian 27-25. The eagles lost to Tascosa 26-20,Cooper 30-20, and San Angelo Central 53-32.
“Especially earlier on with Amarillo Tascosa and Cooper both good football teams,” coach Michael Fullen said. “With San Angelo, Permian,and Lee we knew that would be a gauntlet to go through. Beating Permian was a huge step and stone for us and really kind of slang shotted us in.”
Eagles beat Frenship 42-7 on November 13 to secure their second win for district . They then played Odessa High on their home turf, securing their first away game 29-7, which was the game that put them in the playoff. The next week the Eagles secured another win against Midland high 56-14 to end the district play.
“It feels great, you know from the start alot of people were doubting us,” running back Alphonzo Dotson said. “We proved everybody wrong and it feels good.”
The Eagles will play El Paso Eastwood for their first playoff game on December 12 in Fort Stockton.
“This being our first playoff game we are already in playoff mode,”Fullen said. “We have already been in playoff mode the way that we prepared with our game plans and with our mentality.”
Five returning players helped the Eagles make it to the playoffs and worked hard each game.
“It feels good because we haven’t been in 3 or 4 years,”senior receiver jashari houston said. “We were the first ones doing something and it feels good just want to win.”
