Maybe the world is ending after all. At least it is according to senior Emma Elliott’s debut single, “Apocalypse”.
The Pure Gold member released the single on August 16 surrounded by friends during a special release party.
“It started out as a regular song and then it just was really fun to write,” Emma said. “It was kind of a joke, honestly, and then I got really into it and it was a fun thing to sing.”
She began working on this song last year. Even though it only took her an hour to write the whole song, the process of producing it is what took the longest.
“I started the song in September,” Emma said. “I wrote it in probably one hour or 45 minutes and I was done with it. I sang it over and over again and it just kind of stuck in my head. I think out of all the songs I’ve written, it’s one of the most catchy ones, and I just couldn’t get it out of my head.”
Although this is the first song she has officially released, Emma has been writing songs for a couple of years and was inspired to do so by her older sisters.
“My sisters were always interested in music, and I kind of took after them and started writing songs,” Emma said. “They used to write songs but they kind of dropped it. I’m the only one who writes songs now.”
The AP Music Theory class she took her junior year helped to further her writing abilities, and through that class she even discovered that this is what she wants to study in college.
“I also took a music theory class with Mr. Derrick,” Emma said. “He really inspired me to move forward with what I wanted to do, which is writing music.”
Emma celebrated her new single with a special release party, surrounded by her friends and those who supported her throughout the producing process.
“My release party was so much fun,” Emma said. “I basically just sent people invites that said like ‘The world is ending, Let’s celebrate in our final moments,’ which I just thought was really funny. We played cup pong with orange Fanta and a Kahoot game about the song. Then at midnight we played it and it was just a lot of fun.”
Before the world ends, “Apocalypse” is available to listen to on all music streaming platforms, like Spotify and Apple Music.
